Welcome to the Grove Park Music Festival, 23rd June – 4th July 2004    Registered charity: 1090308

A treat is in store for Chiswick’s residents and visitors when the Grove Park Music Festival opens on 23rd June.  Now in its third year, the Festival has gone from strength to strength and offers a wealth of outstanding musical talent from Chiswick’s finest choirs to eminent, world-class artists.

Whatever your musical taste the Festival will delight you - passionate opera, thrilling gospel, the magic of Peter and the Wolf, the excitement of a new commission inspired by a child’s view of life in Chiswick, a superb string quartet, and the magnificent Mozart’s Requiem and Solemn Vespers.

The opening concert (which is by invitation only, for Members, Benefactors, Patrons and Supporters of the Festival), features Arcadia. The Arcadia wind quintet is comprised of students from the Royal Academy of Music and the Guildhall school of music and drama. They will be performing works by Mozart, Debussy, Malcolm Arnold, Barber and Ibert.

This year the Festival has chosen to support The Stroke Association, and proceeds from the Opera Gala Evening on Friday 25th June, at St Nicholas’ Church, Church Street, Chiswick, will be donated to the charity. Mezzo soprano Sally Burgess will sing excerpts from operas including Carmen, La Vampa, and Samson and Delilah.

A fantastic family event takes place on Sunday 27th June at St Michael’s Church, Elmwood Road, Chiswick with Peter and the Wolf, narrated by Brian Kay and performed by the Brandenburg Sinfonia, and the premier of Graham Preskett’s Chiswick Suite. The winners of the Grove Park Music Festival Singing Competition, which is open to 12-18 year olds, will also be performing. Jessica Hughes will sing Piercing Eyes by Haydn and Alexia Prakas will sing 'Un Moto di Gioia' from Mozart’s 'The Marriage of Figaro'.

A rousing evening is promised on Tuesday 29th June when the London Community Gospel Choir raise the rafters at St Michael’s Church, Elmwood Road, Chiswick with their unique choral sound. Renowned for their up-tempo gospel flair, swing-beat, R’n’B, traditional and soulful arrangements, invigorating choreography and vocal gymnastics the LCGC is outstanding to watch and inspiring to hear!

A change of tempo on Thursday 1st July for The Johnston Quartet, who will be performing works by Haydn, Mendelssohn and Schubert at St Paul’s Church, Grove Park Road, Chiswick. The concert features cellist Guy Johnston who was BBC Young Musician of the Year 2000.

Don’t miss the Festival’s final concert, Magnificent Mozart, which take place on Saturday 15th June at St Paul’s Church, Grove Park Road, Chiswick on Saturday 3rd July. Popular broadcaster and conductor Brian Kay will be conducting Mozart’s Requiem and Solemn Vespers featuring acclaimed soloists Julie Kennard, Ian Partridge, and Michael George with the Grove Park Festival Choir.

The Festival culminates in a Choral Evensong on Sunday 4th July, at St Michael’s Church, with the combined choirs of St Nicholas, St Michael, St Paul and St Joseph and everyone is welcome to attend.
