Mozart’s Requiem and
Solemn Vespers will be performed by the Brandenburg Sinfonia conducted by Brian
Kay, and features soloists Julie Kennard soprano,
Helen Attfield alto, Lucie
Spickova alto, Ian Partridge tenor and Michael George bass with The Grove Park Festival
Choir.
The Brandenburg Sinfonia is
one of the most dynamically versatile musical organisations in the
country. It is renowned for its special
quality of sound and poised vivacity in performance. The Orchestra performs
regularly in the majority of the major venues across the country and in London
at the Barbican Halls, Royal Albert Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Fairfield Hall
and St John's Smith Square and is also in great demand abroad.
Versatile soprano Julie Kennard
has always specialised in oratorio and she has appeared in all major UK concert
halls and cathedrals and in many venues abroad. Recent performances have
included Creation and The Kingdom with Guildford Choral Union, Brahms’ Requiem
in Switzerland, Mozart’s Requiem and Vespers in the Queen Elizabeth Hall, Hymnus Paradisi with the Bach Choir and a
recital in St Stephen’s Festival, London of Berlioz’ Les nuits d’été , Strauss’
Four Last Songs and Dona Nobis Pacem with Vernon Handley and the RLPO.
Helen Attfield studied at The Royal Academy of Music where
she won many awards.She has performed
widely in oratorio and concerts including many performances on the South Bank
and recitals at the Wigmore Hall and Purcell Room.
Lucie Spickova was born in Prague and subsequently studied
clarinet and piano at the Purcell School of Music, London, before going on to
read Modern Languages at Oriel College, Oxford. She is currently in her first
year at the Royal Academy of Music.
Ian Partridge is one of Britain's leading lyric tenors. He
is a professor at the Royal Academy of Music, and was awarded the CBE in 1992 for services to music. Recent
highlights have included Mozart’s Requiem and Vespers at the Queen Elizabeth Hall; Bach’s St Matthew
Passion (London Handel Festival); Bach’s Magnificat in Norwich Cathedral; and
On Wenlock Edge by Vaughan Williams at the CBSO Centre, Birmingham.
Michael George, established as one of Britain's most
versatile bass-baritones, was a chorister at King's College, Cambridge under
Sir David Willcocks. He studied at the Royal College of Music, where he was a
major prizewinner. He has appeared with all the leading UK orchestras and
ensembles, has sung throughout Britain at all the major festivals and has
performed extensively abroad.
