Southfield Councillors Gary Busuttil, Gary Malcolm and Andrew Steed, have agreed to use money from the Ward Forum budget to fund 60% of the work needed to demolish and stabilise the wall adjacent to the railway bridge on Acton Lane.

The remaining 40% will be funded from the South Acton Ward Forum budget since the bridge borders both Southfield and South Acton. The way the wall forced pedestrians to walk towards traffic had been described as an accident waiting to happen. The video above shows a near miss between a bus and a woman pushing a buggy with a child in it.

Councillor Gary Busuttil said, "It has taken three years to get this outcome, and the final obstacle has now been overcome. Work can now proceed to rectify this long running issue, and create a wider and safer walkway for pedestrians, particularly children who pass this area every day on their way to and from school. It was great working with the residents to come to a positive outcome."

The bridge is a complex project because the owner of the land did not want to sell some of his land or allow the work to go ahead. After lots of activity from Councilllors and residents he was persuaded to let the council do the work which will make is safer for children and others to go from Chiswick to Acton or visa versa as the footpath will be clearer.
