Age UK Hounslow needs local community help this Christmas
to give elderly residents lunch and companionship.

With the festive season fast approaching, Age UK Hounslow will be hosting a Christmas lunch on 25 December 2015 for older people in the area who may otherwise face Christmas alone. The Charity is now appealing to the local community to help raise funds to support older people during the festive season and throughout the year. The money raised could help provide an older person with lunch and give them a little warmth and companionship at Christmas and beyond.

The festive season is usually a time for celebration with loved ones, however new research from the Charity for older people paints a gloomy picture of the festive season, with more than 340,000 older people across the country worried about feeling lonely this Christmas. More than a million older people say they haven’t spoken to a friend, neighbour or family member for over a month. A heart-breaking 40,000 older people in London will spend Christmas alone.

That’s why Age UK Hounslow will be hosting lunch on Christmas Day this year to provide support and companionship to ensure that the older people of [insert area] have something to celebrate this Christmas. Guests will be treated to; transport to and from the venue, a sherry and mince pie reception, a three- course Christmas Lunch, games and singing, a Christmas gift and a supper bag to take home.

Beverley Fyfe, Chief Officer at Age UK Hounslow, says; “Loneliness is a huge issue that affects older people all year round, however we know that the festive season can be a particularly difficult time. With just two weeks to go until Christmas we are asking everyone in Hounslow to help us raise funds. Your donation could help provide lunch and go towards vital services to help us to tackle loneliness throughout the year which are a real lifeline to local older people. Please do give generously - with the help of the local community we can ensure we are able to do more to support older people who feel they have no one else to turn to.”

Loneliness is a problem at any time of year. Helping to extend the season of goodwill, Age UK Hounslow is asking for donations to ensure it is able to continue to provide much-needed support and services for older people all year round.
