A number of Chiswick residents are having difficulty voting in the AV Referendum because of a defective register.

It appears only Strand on the Green polling station, situated in the Infant School on Thames Road is affected.

According to reports from one would be voter, the register does not list those who live in streets with names after 'St' for example Wellesley Road. "Perhaps up to 650 names not on register," he told ChiswickW4.com "They asked me to come back later - not sure how much later it will need to be."

A council spokesman said: "We did have a problem first thing which was resolved shortly after 8am. The register at the polling station was incomplete which should not have been the case. As soon as we were alerted to the problem, we provided a new register which was sent out immediately to the polling station.

"Around 20 people were turned away and asked to return later, and no one has been turned away since the revised register arrived just after 8am.

"We would like to apologise to the people who were turned away and can now reassure everyone that they are able to vote between now and 10pm tonight.”
