Lucy O’Sullivan is the parliamentary candidate for the Brexit Party in the Brentford and Isleworth constituency.

The Brexit Party is not running candidates in any seats the Conservatives are defending so she is standing against Labour's Ruth Cadbury in this constituency.

The Brexit Party remain an unknown quantity in the forthcoming general election, facing into their first Westminster electoral challenge since their formation earlier this year.

Lucy O'Sullivan, a long time west London resident, was formerly employed at the European Commission and the European Parliament, and says she intends to "stand up squarely for democracy."

"When Leave won the 2016 referendum by 1.6 million votes it meant Leave won. It did not mean the referendum would be rerun until the result was overturned. Those calling for a second referendum (or ‘people’s vote’) are challenging democracy at its core.

"I cannot stand by and let this happen. As a proud West Londoner, if elected, my pledge to you is to defend the interests of all the communities in Brentford and Isleworth, particularly regarding Heathrow expansion, but also to help change the sorry state of democracy and politics for good in this country.”

Lucy lived in Brussels for sixteen years, and says she saw at first hand "a lot of waste and no growth in Europe.

"I went in as a committed European, and came out as a committed Brexiteer when I came back to the UK in 2009."

Since being selected she has been leafleting and canvassing across Hounslow, including Hounslow town centre and Brentford Football Grounds. "It has gone down very well, though sometimes it has been challenging."

Her parents are from Cork in Ireland and she grew up in Gloucestershire.

She ran her own PR firm in the city for many years and had corporate clients including IBM.

She decided to enter politics having voted 'Leave' in the referendum and becoming angry at what was happening in Parliament.

"I felt that the UK was being totally ignored by the European Union, and that the EU was being arrogant.

"I am standing now for a clean break Brexit but if we cannot get it and Boris Johnson gets a hung parliament, we want to have enough MPs so that we can keep him to his promises and make sure that he does what he says he will do."

She says she was "bullied" by the Conservative Party not to stand and received 400 emails urging her not to run for election, which she found 'personally upsetting'.

She has never been a member of the Conservative Party.

She wants to see tariffs on non-EU goods reduced, which will cut the cost of living.

"I want to reform our political system so that parliament truly represents the people eg not career politicians, and get rid of the House of Lords and make it into an elected second chamber.

"The Brexit party are the new radicals, and when we continue after the election we will change the party name."

She also wants to increase police numbers and tackle anti social behaviour, work to end homelessness by introducing more affordable housing, and increase tax incentives for employees.

"The problem about staying in the EU under the Boris deal is that we won't be able to have the free trade agreements with other growing nations. The EU is trying to bind our hands, I know how they work, they will stop us being dynamic. "

She also backs Heathrow expansion for a third runway.

She believes the guarantees to meet air quality regulations will work and encourages Heathrow and the airlines to work together for longer night flight bans. She also supports the Brexit party proposal to plant millions of trees as part of a UN initiative.

Richard Tice, Brexit Party Chairman said of the Brexit Party candidates that "the vast majority are entering politics for the first time and they come from all walks of life, backgrounds, races and religions.

"Their greatest strength is that they are not professional politicians, but are competent individuals, connected to their local areas and issues they seek to represent. They have achieved great things in their professional or personal life, from entrepreneurs, small business owners and economists – to teachers, academics, forklift driver and bankers. But we all share a commitment to deliver Brexit, defend democracy and change politics for good.”
