Chiswick Choir is holding a Come and Sing Day on Saturday 21 January at St Michael’s Centre, Elmwood Road, W4 3DZ.

The day is led by Hilary Campbell, Musical Director and the £20 fee includes score (£10 students and under 21).

They will be performing John Rutter’s Magnificat after a session which runs from 11am-4.30pm.

Details and more information can be obtained from enquiries@chiswickchoir.org.uk and
tickets from www.ticketsource.co.uk/chiswickchoir or at the door.

John Rutter, best known for his carols has written several larger scale choral works. His ’Magnificat’, the great hymn of praise by the Virgin Mary on learning that she was to give birth to Christ, was first performed in the US in 1990. It consists of seven movements for choir and soprano and includes a 15th Century poem; ‘Of a Rose, a Lovely Rose’; the rose standing for the Virgin Mary.

Rutter’s intention was to write a Magnificat full of sun and celebration in the spirit of carnivals and festivals. To evoke this spirit, the work is full of energetic and syncopated rhythms and
strong melodies. You can view a full performance

Come and enjoy a day’s singing with an inspirational conductor assisted throughout the day by Emily Rose Wenman, a versatile singer who’ll be singing the solo part in the performance at 4.00pm as well. Those new to choral singing or who want a chance to give it a try will be especially welcome as will those with some experience.

Refreshments will be available but you are advised to bring your own lunch, there are a few shops close by.

Hilary Campbell is in her second year as Musical Director of the Chiswick Choir. She is also Musical Director of the Bristol Choral Society, the Music Makers of London and P&O Ferries Choir. She is the
founder and director of Blossom Street, a professional chamber choir. She was the choral coach of the BBC Symphony Chorus for a performance of Mozart’s Mass in C at this year’s Proms. As well as this she is a published and prize-winning composer.

Emily Rose Wenman is a British soprano with wide ranging experience across operatic and sacred music. She holds an MA in Vocal Performance from the Royal Welsh College of Music. She is currently a principle singer with Blossom Street and recent and upcoming opera roles include Adina (L'elisir d'amore), Cendrillon (Cendrillon) and Anne Trulove (The Rake’s Progress).
