The owners of the Chiswick Tower, which sits atop the Gunnersbury tube station, have applied for permission to convert office space at the base into the building into either shops or a restaurant.

The application is for a change of use of of 470sqm of floorspace from a former canteen and other ancillary office uses to be converted to flexible retail use (A1) or a restaurant or cafe (A3) .

The landmark building at 389 Chiswick High Road is currently owned by Hermes Real Estate and was bought for £56 million in 2013. They have held discussions with Hounslow Council about the possibility of converting the whole building to residential use but have been advised that they are unlikely to be given permission.

The 18-storey tower, was formerly the base for the British Standards Institute (BSI).
