Having a job that pays the bills is one thing, having a career you LOVE is quite another. So why is that so many people find themselves falling into a mediocre job by chance and just staying put? Often people at a loss when they are made redundant or have left the workforce for years to raise a family and wonder how they will ever manage to get a job that they feel inspires them.

Cindy says that she knows exactly what career frustration feels like as she was made redundant four times in twenty years. During her working life, she changed industries several times, moving from retail to criminal justice, followed by publishing, recruitment, technology, marketing and now, career consulting.

So why use food as a metaphor in book about finding your dream job ?

"I use food to lighten up the message and also to make it easily accessible. For example, we all have certain raw ingredients at home that we need to use to make a recipe- those raw ingredients are our core skills, and then we need the kitchen tools, just as we use a computer as a tool to get our CV out there, and we need to put all the skills and ingredients together to come up with the dish we present, that is ourselves.

"People often forget that everything they have done in life, not just in work but also outside it, is valuable to the person they are. Every achievement, even if it appears minor, is important."

Cindy says the rules apply to new graduates just as much to women returning to the workforce, or people changing jobs in mid-life.

The world of work has changed, people work longer hours, the advent of technology has led to a 'blurring of boundaries' in that people are constantly contactable and even having a gym on site leads to people spending more time in the office.

"The reality is that most people put more effort into planning a trip than they do into finding their next role. Cooking up Success is a step-by-step guide to taking ownership of your career path and shows people how to find that dream position that truly aligns with what they love.

"I'm on a one-woman mission to help get people the job they love. It may not happen instantly but if you can create a plan and take ownership, then you have the chance to make it happen."
