As part of changes to the garden waste service, residents have until 31 May to claim a free home composter, which usually costs around £20.

A composter allows you to recycle most garden waste as well as some food waste at home and reduces how much waste you throw away. The compost produced can be used as fertiliser for plants, pots and trees in your garden.

The exclusive offer is open to all residents whether they have subscribed to the new garden waste service or not. So far, more than 2,800 residents have benefited from the offer.

More than 10,000 residents have signed up to the new garden waste service which gives them fortnightly collection of garden waste for a fixed year period (until 31 March 2017). The service costs £50.

As well as the free composter offer, residents can still sign up for the council’s new garden waste service. You can also call the council’s customer service centre on 020 8583 5555 to sign up and pay over the phone.

Councillor Amrit Mann, Deputy Leader of Hounslow Council, said: “With spring now well and truly under way, there’s no better time to turn your attention to the garden.

“Home composting is a great way to do your bit for the environment – and your garden. The nutrient rich fertiliser you can produce is the only kind of recycling where you literally reap what you sow.

“The free composter offer won’t last forever so sign up now.”

Claim your free composter by visiting www.getcomposting.com or calling 0844 571 4444. Offer is limited to one per household on a first come, first served basis, while stocks last.
