Hounslow Council are to make the arrangements for the funeral of John Dwyer after proved impossible to trace any of his relatives.

Both the local authority and the police had tried to make contact with them without success. It was thought he hailed from Donegal in Ireland but local media coverage has failed to result in anyone coming forward.

As a result the Coroner has given the go ahead for the borough to start organising the funeral of the man who had lived in a makeshift home under the Chiswick Flyover for at least thirty years.

He was found dead in his makeshift camp on Tuesday 26 January after concerns were raised for his welfare. He is believed to have been in his seventies.

Floral tributes were placed at the location of his encampment across the road from the B&Q store.

Council Leader, Cllr Steve Curran, said, "The death of local resident, John Dwyer, who was in his seventies and a well-known character across the Borough and further afield has sparked a great deal of interest from residents and the media alike.

"Mr Dwyer lived beneath the A4 flyover at Chiswick roundabout for more than 30 years. While the Council’s housing team and others worked very hard over many years to provide a home for Mr Dwyer in Chiswick, their efforts unfortunately were unsuccessful. Although last year, the Housing Team did manage to place Mr Dwyer in a home for a short while, but unfortunately, he couldn’t settle and he decided to return to his encampment which he called home.
