A man from Chiswick was killed this Sunday (5th May) after an accident during a classic car race.

Christian Devereux, aged 52, who lived in the Bedford Park area of Chiswick, was participating in a race for historic touring cars at the Donington Park race track in Leicestershire. His 1965 Mini Cooper S was in collision with an American Mustang at the 'Coppice Corner' bend at the track.

The race, which included over 20 cars built between the 1930s and 1960s, was immediately cancelled by marshalls.

Two air ambulances attended the scene. Mr. Devereux died from the injuries sustained at around 4.30pm.

A statement issued on the Donington Park race track web site says, " The organising race club, HSCC and Donington Park Racing Limited, together with the circuit’s medical and emergency services, will now be co-operating with both the Leicestershire Police and motorsport’s Governing Body, the Motor Sports Association, in order to determine the cause of this tragic accident."
