The police are appealing for witnesses following the death of a man who was hit by a car on the Great West Road.

Two men, one of them the driver, have been arrested over the crash, which happened at 9.54pm on Sunday, 17 May. They have been bailed to appear at a date in June.

Medics from London Ambulance Service pronounced the victim dead 25 minutes later. Police said he had been on foot when the collision happened. The man was aged 53 not in his thirties as was originally reported. His next of kin have been informed but he has yet to be formally identified.

The Evening Standard have reported that the car involved was a red Mazda MX-5 but police have yet to confirm this.

Great West Road was shut westbound between Gillette Corner and Wood Lane while police investigated, but reopened before the morning rush hour.

Officers from Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) based at Merton are investigating.

Anyone with information is asked to call the unit on 020 8543 5157.
