The car which lay abandoned near Wellesley Road for almost a week, outside a Chiswick health clinic, has finally been removed to the relief of local residents.

The proprietor of a health clinic had contacted Chiswickw4.com to express frustration and disappointment at the failure of the authorities to remove the wrecked car from the front of her premises. It had been involved in a collision last Sunday.

Denise Jones, who owns The Retreat at 1 Fromows Corner, Sutton Lane North, had been unable to get anyone to admit responsibility for taking the car away. She said it had affected her business as the area was taped off and people thought she was closed.

She had contacted the Met police, Hounslow Council, the fire brigade and a local councillor ,Jo Biddolph, had made representations on her behalf but it took until Friday for the vehicle to be removed.

She thanked Chiswickw4.com for highlighting the issue and said: "I want to thank you for your intervention which I am sure was the cause of the situation being resolved."

However she said she had been disappointed with the lack of concern of those in authority who disowned any responsibility for the removal of the vehicle and not making the area safe. I think it is appalling that this dragged on for nearly a week with no end in sight.”

She added, “It was a serious hazard on a dangerous corner which saw the death of a small child some years ago. The cordon was driving pedestrians into the road of incoming traffic.

The police said they were called at around 6.15am on Sunday 9 June to the site of the collision on Wellesley Road at the junction with Sutton Lane North. There were no reported injuries or arrests and they had spoken with the registered keeper of the vehicle. However, they said the removal was not a matter for them.

Cllr Jo Biddolph said that when she visited the scene at 4.30 pm Friday, the car had been removed but half of the bent railings plus quite a lot of smashed plastic and broken headlights lay on the road with the bollards badly placed.

She contacted Hounslow Highways to clear the road and lift the railings out of the way, and she herself moved some of the smashed plastic and glass to reduce the risk of drivers and cyclists puncturing tyres. Later that evening the pavement and road were cleared, she said.

Cllr Biddolph commented: "Several residents have raised concerns about the safety of this section of Wellesley Road - it’s on a bend and the road narrows towards the junction with the mini-roundabout. Various suggestions have been made and we are actively seeking improvements."
