Female cyclist died after collision with moped
September 17, 2025 A number of arrests have been made by officers investigating the death of a female cyclist in Hammersmith last month. The woman in her fifties was struck by a moped on the cycleway on King Street near Lyric Square at around 5:30pm on Friday 22 August. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Eye-witnesses report that a woman riding a bike with her child narrowly avoided a similar collision with the moped. The moped rider failed to stop and the police made an appeal to trace them. It is understood that the moped was illegally being ridden along the segregated cycleway to avoid queueing traffic during the evening rush hour. Earlier reports that the rider was a delivery rider are now being discounted and it is being suggested that there was more than one moped in the cycleway at the time with the possibility raised that the riders may have been involved in a race or some sort of dispute. Neither the victim nor the people arrested have been named at this point and the police have not specified the number of arrests made. It is believed that there is no prior connection between the woman and the moped rider. The cyclist’s family are being supported by specially-trained officers. The police now say that the investigation is ongoing and they are continuing to appeal for witnesses and information asking people to call 101, quoting CAD 5782/22AUG.
