Pupils from one of the borough's oldest and most successful primary schools will be spreading the word of their school's centenary with a special balloon launch this Wednesday and to make the day extra special pupils will be dressing in costumes from the last 100 years, with everything from Edwardian grandeur to punk chic expected to make an appearance.  Many of the pupils, in the school's Centenary Club, are already hard at work unearthing fascinating snippets and photographs from the school records.

The launch will be the first in a series of events to celebrate the school's 100 years during 2004 and 2005.

A centenary party is being planned for June 18 2004, to which past pupils are invited to revisit the school and meet with current pupils and teachers.   With past pupils including the offspring of Robert Lynsey, Bill Brag and John Rowe, present-day pupils are keeping their fingers crossed that there will be some famous ex-pupils returning too.     Any past pupils wishing to attend this party should contact Nikki Bright Nikkijb123@aol.com .   Nikki has already been in contact with many ex-students via the Friends Reunited website which also has details of the Centenary party plans.

Ann Williams, headteacher of Belmont Primary, said “The school was built in 1904 and the first class of pupils was welcomed a year later, which is why we're taking the opportunity to hold our centenary over two years.

There's a lot of excitement about the balloon launch and the party in June.  I hope we have lots of former pupils coming back to the school for that.   Many of our pupils have been learning about life in 1904 and how different school was then, but they all think it's much better now!"
