Sutton Court Road in Grove Park has reopened to traffic having been closed for a number of days last week due to work on a burst water main.

Traffic is now allowed back along the road which had been closed to all but pedestrians. Thames Water had said the work to the burst water main would continue until July 20th.

The water company said that when the pipe burst, the high pressure caused significant damage to the road and pavement so it has to be repaired and made safe for traffic and pedestrians. The Road Closed signs have been moved to the side of the pavement although work is still continuing to the pavements.

The company had said it would be working hard to get it finished early because of the importance of Sutton Court road in terms of traffic flow in the area.

The burst main caused significant disruption to bus commuters following the road closure as the E3 and 272 were on diversion from Barrowgate Road to the A4 and rerouted along the Hogarth Roundabout.

Over 150 people contacted the water company during the week to complain of low water pressure or no water at all.
