A good tradesman being worth his weight in gold has proved to be spot on for Colin Firth who thanked the man who came to repair his fridge during his acceptance speech at the BAFTA’s.

The Chiswick actor won the award for Best Actor for his performance in Tom Ford's 'A Single Man', a role which has also bagged him an oscar nomination.

Speaking about working with the designer turned director, Firth said, "An encounter with Tom Ford is come away feeling resuscitated a little more worldy, better informed, better groomed, more fragranced and more nominated than one has ever been before.”

He then added, "What Tom Ford doesn't know is I have the email in my outbox telling him I could not possibly do this," Firth said. "I was about to send it when a man came to repair my fridge ... so I would like to thank the fridge guy."
