Pick a Chiswick pub, arrange to meet an international rugby star and get drunk!

Late developer Duffy has revealed how she was so anxious on her first date ever - aged 24 - she got drunk to to try and ease her nerves.

The singing star was speaking to Marie Claire magazine about her first date with rugby player Mike Phillips. She said: “He asked me out on a date and we met by the river in Chiswick. We didn’t eat any of our food the whole time. I was so nervous.

“But we got a little bit drunk to ease the nerves. I never go on dates. I’ve never been on one in my life. When we were kids we used to kiss the boys from school so you didn’t go on a date with someone you knew.

“Where were they gonna take me anyway, to the local chippy?”

Duffy and Wales and Osprey scrum half Mike Phillips drew comparisons to Charlotte Church and Gavin Henson when they first got together in September 2008 but unlike the latter high profile couple who recently split, this singer and her rugby player have been enjoying their relationship for the most part away from the public eye.

“I knew there was something missing in my life, then I met Mike and knew he was the one from our first date," said Duffy adding “There are streams of idiots that I have loved and lost but now Mike is the guy for me.”
