The popular television chef Rick Stein who bought a home in Chiswick last year, has announced that he is taking over riverside restaurant the Depot in Barnes.

Rick Stein was a financial partner and mentor to Sam Harrison at Sam's Brasserie and Bar before it closed after ten years to become Foxlow.

His new venture is located in the Tideway yard, a cobbled courtyard surrounded by Victorian conversions, and has a conservatory style dining room with river views.

His company will continue to run the restaurant in its current form until it closes in December for a small refurbishment in January.

Also, something extremely important to us is that the staff will remain both now and after the refurbishment.

The current owners of The Depot have been there for thirty years - the forty staff will continue to be employed when the restaurant reopens.

Rick Stein commented: "I've often been asked if I'll ever have a restaurant in London and to be honest, I've always said I wouldn't, but when I went to have a look at The Depot it struck me how perfect a place it was, overlooking the Thames, being wonderfully close to central London but far enough out to feel like you're in your own community."

He also has restaurants and business interests in Padstow Cornwall, and Bannisters, in New South Wales.
