Former Doctor Who actor, Peter Davison, has come out against the idea of having a female in the role.

Davison (66) who is the father of Georgina Moffet, the wife of another Time Lord, David Tennant, says it's 'sad' and will mean the loss of a role model for boys.

Davison was the fifth person to take on the role in the 1981-1984 series of the popular BBC sci-fi show. His daughter Georgina Moffett, starred on show as the onscreen child of David Tennant, 46, who one of the programme's most popular Time Lords. She went onto marry David Tennant and the couple now have four children together and live in Chiswick.

Speaking before an appearance at Comic-Con in San Diego on Thursday, the British actor said Jodie Whittaker was a 'terrific actress' but expressed concerns about the lead role going to a female. He was quoted as saying 'If I feel any doubts, it's the loss of a role model for boys who I think Doctor Who is vitally important for. So I feel a bit sad about that, but I understand the argument that you need to open it up.'

Davison said he liked the idea of the Doctor 'as a boy' but added, 'maybe I'm an old-fashioned dinosaur, who knows?'.
