Following a formal complaint received by Hounslow Council's Health & Adult Care Scrutiny Panel from a service user and concerns and questions raised by Councillors on behalf of service users, the Chair of the Panel, Cllr Rajawat, has requested a special meeting to consider the closure of Chiswick and Bedfont Day Centres.

An invitation has been sent to all members of the Panel, made up of both Labour and Conservative Councillors, to attend the meeting.

Members of the community along with key stakeholders such as Carers UK and Age Concern are also being invited to attend although a date and time has yet to be announced.

As part of the discussions, there are a number of issues that Members are interested in exploring. These include:

  • The consultation process and timescales
  • How the Council is ensuring it meets its statutory duty to carers and safeguarding vulnerable adults as set out in national guidelines in the process of consulting and putting any changes to services in place
  • Engagement with key stakeholders such as Carers UK and Age Concern
Results of the service and risk impact assessments completed (including impact on carers respite)
  • Implications for services at Heston Day Centre and Roshni
  • Alternative services available to residents.
  • Overall borough strategy relating to day centre provision across the borough

Members will be given an opportunity to see service and risk impact assessments and any strategy documents relating to managing day centre services in the borough, prior to the meeting.

The final decision on the Day Centres will be made on 1st March at the Borough Council Meeting.

The agenda has now been published on-line and can be found at
