The Chiswick Horticultural Society Summer Show took place last Saturday 11th June at Grove Park Primary School and proved to be exceptionally popular.

An early start for the volunteers meant that entrants were able to stage their exhibits between 10am and 12 noon.  The scent of roses and sweet peas in the school hall was intoxicating.

The Judges set about the tough challenge of inspecting the various categories of flowers, fruit, vegetables, domestic classes and children's artwork - very difficult decisions - and awarded prizes accordingly.  The society were delighted that actress Rula Lenska came to present the awards to the prizewinners.

The standard and the number of the entries was extremely high. There were also an amazing 162 children's entries, from Grove Park School and Cavendish School - a magnificent total - especially as they were all of very good quality.

The Summer Show, featured in London Sustainability Weeks 2005, was one of 300 events across 30 London boroughs to celebrate a cleaner, greener and healthier London.
