The Chiswick, Brentford and Isleworth Conservative Association has announced its slate of candidates for wards in Chiswick ahead of next year’s local elections.

Six sitting councillors are to be joined by six new candidates for the vote which is due to take place on Thursday 5 May 2022.

In Chiswick Riverside, sitting councillor Gabriella Giles is joined by two new candidates: Gavin Morrison, a local technology consultant with a professional interest in policing and criminal justice, who believes technology could be used more effectively to deliver better public services; and Seb Wallace, a venture capital investor who takes a particular interest in local education policy as the chair of the board of governors at a London state school. Long serving ward councillor Sam Hearn will be stepping down along with Michael Denniss.

Experienced councillors Gerald McGregor and John Todd will be standing for re-election in Chiswick Homefields alongside new candidate Jack Emsley, a public relations professional in the clean energy sector who was involved in local community charity work during the pandemic. Patrick Barr is the councillor who will not be standing this time.

In Chiswick Gunnersbury, formerly Turnham Green ward, Joanna Biddolph, Ranjit Gill and Ron Mushiso will all be seeking re-election.

If voting patterns in the Mayoral elections held earlier this year are anything to go by the forthcoming contest could be much closer than previous with Labour ahead in the polls in some of the Chiswick wards. The new Gunnersbury seat could be particularly vulnerable for the Conservatives given the boundary changes.

Elsewhere in the borough, Osterley and Spring Grove, which currently has three Labour councillors, will be contested by Sukhy Bahia, a lecturer at a London university and volunteer for several local charity groups; Jason Harcourt, a quality assurance professional in Higher Education who grew up in Osterley and has lived in the area ever since; and Maneesh Singh, a Finance Director and local activist who stood as a Conservative candidate in the ward in 2018. All three have been active in working with community groups to oppose the development of the Osterley Tesco/Homebase site.

“Next year’s local elections will give our community the chance to vote for fresh ideas from committed Conservative candidates,” said Joan D’Olier, Chair of Chiswick, Brentford and Isleworth Conservative Association. “For far too long, the Hounslow Labour Party has ignored us, overcharged us and let us down. I’m excited to work with our candidates across the borough to ensure the election of local Conservative champions who care about our area.”

The Conservatives plan to field a full slate of candidates in Hounslow Borough and their names will be announced in due course.
