The number of new Covid-19 infections in parts of Chiswick has fallen below the level at which official figures are published.

When there are fewer than three cases in a locality the Office of National Statistics does not disclose the actual number to protect the privacy of individuals.

Overall in the week to 14 March across the whole of the W4 area there were 7 reported cases with 4 in the vicinity of Strand on the Green.

A local GP commented, “The sharp fall in the number of positive tests is hugely encouraging but this certainly isn’t a time for complacency. These numbers will not reflect the impact of the return to school so the chances are that there will be a bounce back in the infection rate.

"Easter represents another danger point and if people start to jump the gun on lockdown restrictions we risk a third wave. It would be a misconception to think that the high number of people vaccinated will prevent this from happening.”

The two local boroughs, Ealing and Hounslow, continue to have some of the highest rates of Covid-19 infections in London. Ealing has the second highest after Hillingdon with 71 cases per 100,000 population while Hounslow ranks fourth with 60 cases.

Officially the vaccine roll-out has been widened to the over-60s this week but locally those aged 50 and over are being invited to book an appointment to get the jab.

As well as those meeting the age requirement you are also invited to book an appointment for the vaccine if you are:

  • at high risk from coronavirus (clinically extremely vulnerable)
  • an eligible frontline health or social care worker
  • you have a condition that puts you at higher risk (clinically vulnerable)
  • you have a learning disability
  • a main carer for someone at high risk from coronavirus

You need to be registered with a GP in England to make a booking. GPs have been told to prepare to receive twice as many doses in March.

Up to and including 14 March 2,508,347 people in London had received the first dose of a vaccine and 149,976 had received two doses.

On 18 March the daily number of new people tested positive for Covid-19 in London was reported as 535.

The total number of COVID-19 cases identified in London is 705,609 as at 17 March, this compares to 3,746,280 cases for England as a whole

In the most recent week of complete data, to 13 March 2021, 3,504 cases were identified in London, a rate of 39 cases per 100,000 population. This compares with 3,709 cases and a rate of 41 for the previous week.
