Police are continuing to focus on Chiswick in the wake of the recent crime increase, with two arrests made last week, and a Stop and Search operation on Wednesday evening.

The most recent operation took place around the High Road and Turnham Green Terrace Wednesday evening (January 23) shortly after 5.30 pm with between six and eight police vehicles from the rapid respose and Interceptor teams involved. The cars blocked the road and rerouted traffic for about 30 minutes.

One eye witness said she saw a group of young men being taken out of a car in Elliott Road and questioned.

Police said that this was a Stop and Search operation and that the car had been followed as it was observed being part of a convoy. No arrests were made.

'Operation Stallion' and Operation Wolverine are currently in place as part of the emergency police response to the recent increase in muggings and knife attacks. Highly trained officers have been operating in Chiswick recently, with extra back up from the 'Interceptor' teams, who have high powered vehicles for pursuing criminals, and are equipped with tasers.

Earlier in the week there were two arrests in Chiswick, one in Hayes, one in Feltham and one in Brentford.

The Interceptor teams are part of the recent measure introduced by the West Area Basic Command, to be on call 24/7 to respond to emergencies, as a back up to the Rapid Response teams. The police say that the operations are yielding results with several arrests.
