A man responsible for a number of sexual assaults on women in Chiswick has been jailed for three and a half years.

36-year-old Constantin Nechita was convicted at Isleworth Crown Court on Thursday 9 May after pleading guilty to five counts of sexual assault.

The Romanian national had been tracked down by police after Hounslow CID managed to link evidence from a crime committed in Mitcham to the series of attacks that took place in Chiswick in November 2014.

Nechita had since moved back to Romania but he was extradited back to the UK on Friday, 8 March 2019 and was charged at a West London Police Station.

His first attack took place on Saturday, 15 November at 2am when a 34-year-old woman was followed from Chiswick High Road and along Dukes Avenue before being indecently assaulted on Barrowgate Road. When she resisted the Nechita ran off in the direction of Sutton Court Road.

The second incident happened on Monday, 24 November on Fishers Lane, Chiswick at approximately 6.30pm. The 28-year-old female victim was walking, when he approached her from behind and indecently assaulted her. The victim jumped away and he ran off towards Acton Green. Close by that same day, and around the same time in Kingscote Road, a 52-year-old woman was walking with her adult daughter. He approached the mother from behind and indecently assaulted her. The victim jumped away and Nechita ran off towards St Albans Avenue.

Detective Constable Dan Whitehead said, “this case shows that if you commit offences in the UK and leave, we will do everything in our power to get you back before a British court.”
