Boots store on Chiswick High Road has take steps to improve security following the latest smash and grab raid on the premises.

It is believed to be the seventh such attack on the store this year in which the glass on the front door was smashed by raiders.

The store has now installed metal grilles inside the display windows.

There have been regular spates of attacks on stores in Chiswick in the past few months but Boots has been one of the worst affected.

It usually involves two raiders, both wearing dark clothing and helmets, who drive up to the front of the stores, and one, usually armed with a hammer or baseball bat, smashes the glass, grabs the contents in a bag, and the two makes their escape at speed. The incidents are usually over before anyone can raise the alarm.

Others have now installed protective metal grilles.

Last July we reported that local traders now say that the problem is becoming so severe that there is a risk of insurance premiums rising even for businesses that have not been directly affected. One local trader said that there is pressure from insurers to install metal grilles on the front of the premises which would degrade the look of Chiswick High Road, according to some.

Over the summer, a cancer charity shop, Greggs bakery, Boots, Robert Dyas and a bike shop were all victims of this type of attack, part of a spate of attacks across London.

We have sought comment from Boots and further information on the attack from police.
