A spate of attacks on motorists took place on Chiswick High Road this Wednesday (10 July) with up to six cars reported to have had their windows smashed while stuck in traffic. It is believed that those responsible were using mopeds to weave through stationary cars to select targets.

In one incident a woman was travelling eastbound close to the KFC by the junction with Ennismore Avenue with her daughter.

Zoe Scott said, “My 5-year-old daughter was sitting in this seat evening when two male youths put a hammer through the window in traffic on Chiswick High Road. We were the fourth car that this had happened too that night . Thank our blessing my daughter had minor cuts and could of been a lot, lot worse!”

Zoe later heard of two more incidents that had occurred in the vicinity the same evening.

A spokesperson for Hounslow Police said, “On Wednesday, 10 July at around 7.30pm, Police were called to High Road, W4, to reports of an assault and damage to a vehicle. Police and London Ambulance Service attended and located a vehicle that had been damaged. The occupants of the vehicle, suffered minor injuries by glass fragments after an object had been thrown through the vehicle window causing it to shatter. Reports of the suspects were on a two wheeled vehicle. All parties were treated at the scene by the London Ambulance Service.”

We asked the police for details of the other attacks we received reports of but none were provided.

Later that evening the windows of a nearby motor spares shop were smashed. There has been a spate of criminal damage to retail premises on the High Road recently involving persons on mopeds. We asked the police to whether they believed the incidents were connected but they did not respond.

No arrests have been made at this stage.
