A cannabis farm has been discovered by local police in Southfield ward, following what locals described as an 'overpowering smell' from a property which had been rented.

On Tuesday 16 July, PC’s Piatek and Gonsalves responded to information that they had received about an address on the ward.

Apparently, according to local reports, there was an overpowering smell of cannabis emanating from the property.

The police said that officers had previously arranged to view the property with the letting agency responsible. They called the agency at 1pm to confirm their attendance. Initially the agency tried to postpone the meeting but agreed to attend after talking to the officers.

As they walked into the property the officers noted that the first room contained bags of mud, lighting equipment and extractors. The windows had been covered and the walls covered with plasterboard. On the top floor they found approximately 100 plants along with various bits of equipment carefully hidden in the toilet.

The case is ongoing but all in all a good result for the officers and more drugs taken off the streets.
