Police are examining CCTV from around the home of Declan Donnelly in Chiswick after an attempt was made to break into the property.

The TV presenter was asleep with his wife and young daughter on Tuesday 6 April when burglars tried to prise open the wrought iron gates at the front of the house.

A neighbour saw what was happening and rang 999 at around but the would be intruders fled empty handed in a car before the police arrived.

It is understood that Mr Donnelly and his family were not awoken by the incident and were unaware of what had happen until the following morning. The police are understood to have told the family they believe the attempt was made by a gang of professional burglars.

The next day a workman was observed making repairs to the gate.

The Metropolitan Police said, "Police were called at approximately 00:40hrs to reports of an attempted burglary at a residential property.

"Officers attended. The suspects had left the scene prior to police arrival. There was no evidence that they had gained access to the property.

"Inquiries are ongoing. At this early stage, there have been no arrests."
