A man recently called at a home in Hounslow and demanded payment for work which he claimed had been carried out on the roof.

No such work had been completed and as soon as he saw the occupant's relative, he made off in a maroon van which had ladders on the top.

The man was described as Asian or Eastern European, 30 yrs old, 6'00", big build, a round face, wearing a deep blue shirt.

He may well try his luck elsewhere in the borough.

Please tell elderly friends and neighbours to be on their guard, especially if they have recently had building work completed. We recommend they use their door chains and spyholes before opening the door and phone police if at all suspicious of any caller.
