A 25 year old Chiswick man has been sentenced to six and a half years in prison after Trident officers recovered a gun capable of firing over 1000 rounds a minute.

Darren Mathurin was found guilty at Harrow Crown Court on Monday 10th April 2006 of possession of a prohibited weapon and unlawful possession of ammunition.

On Thursday 8th September 2005, detectives from the Metropolitan Police's Operation Trident team executed a search warrant at an address in Harlesden, London.

When they searched the property they found a Mach-10 machine pistol capable of firing over 1000 rounds per minute, along with stock for the weapon and a quantity of 9mm ammunition.

Further investigation by the Metropolitan Police's Operation Trident, including the use of forensic evidence, enabled officers to identify Mathurin, an associate of the resident in Harlesden.

On Friday 25 November 2005 Mathurin was arrested at his home address on Chiswick High Road.

Detective Chief Inspector Harry HENNIGAN, from the Metropolitan Police's Operation Trident, said "Through working in partnership with the CPS, we have been able to remove an individual with access to an extremely dangerous weapon from the streets. The gun and the ammunition would have had serious consequences should it ever have been used.

"Operation Trident continues to work towards making communities safer by removing individuals and firearms from the street, and I would urge anyone with information that could assist to contact officers directly or anonymously through Crimestoppers."
