The Police in Chiswick

Turnham Green Safer Neighbourhood Team, working together with Hounslow’s Trading Standards have arrested two bogus builders who were in the process of trying to con an elderly couple out of thousands of pounds.

The pair cold called on the Chiswick couple, aged in their 70's, and offered to repair some guttering for "the price of a drink" - shortly after completing the work, the couple were presented with a bill for nearly £10,000 and were understandably distraught.

Both men have been arrested on suspicion of fraud and have been bailed to return to Chiswick police station whilst enquiries continue.

Richard Lugg of Hounslow Trading Standards said "Do not contract for goods and services or pay cash to doorstep callers."

Sergeant Ben Clark of Turnham Green SNT said "These so-called builders were preying on vulnerable Chiswick residents. If you have concerns about suspicious traders or contractors you can contact Chiswick Police on 020 8247 6415 or Hounslow Trading Standards on 020 8583 5555."
