Police in Chiswick are appealing for witnesses to two arson incidents at Christ Church on Turnham Green.

Rubbish bags had been placed next to the wall of the church and set alight on both Sunday 26th and Monday 27th April mornings.

In both incidents, staff at the church were able to extinguish the fires before damage was caused.

PS Ben Clark of Turnham Green Safer Neighbourhoods Team said, "It is only through luck and the vigilance of staff that serious damage or even injury was not caused."

He continued, "These incidents happened in broad daylight when many people would have been walking past, either using Turnham Green itself or on their morning commute. I would ask that anyone who saw someone acting suspiciously outside the church on either morning to contact us."

Witnesses are asked to contact the crime management unit at Chiswick police station on 0300 123 1212.

Alternatively, witnesses can call crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
