Chiswick High Road was closed on Monday 24th January, following what Police say was "part of a pro-active Trident operation"

Armed officers stopped two cars at 10:36 and closed the High Road in both directions between Chiswick Roundabout and Oxford Road.

Six people, five men and one woman, were arrested and taken to Police stations in West London.

One firearm was recovered at the scene and the two cars removed for further forensic examination.

An eyewitness said: "I was waiting at the crossing opposite Chiswick Moran Hotel when four cars crashed into each other and armed police jumped out of the first one and starting smashing windows of the second car with their guns and then pinning the men to the ground."

Police confirmed that no shots were fired.
