There has been a sharp increase in robberies in the Chiswick area according to the latest crime figures released by the Metropolitan Police.

The rise has been particular strong in Turnham Green ward which covers much of Chiswick High Road. That area saw the robbery rate increase by three times in the 12 months to September 2012 to 4.4 crimes per 1,000 population. Robberies were also up by 38.!% in Chiswick Homefields ward and 29.4% in Chiswick Riverside. This compares to a 29.2% rise for Hounslow Borough as a whole.

In the north part of Chiswick which is covered by Ealing borough, Southfield ward saw robberies rise by 42.9%  An increase in this type of crime in this area had been highlighted earlier this year leading to a petition being raised to increase the staffing of the local Safer Neighbourhood teams. A recent Southfield ward police panel AGM revealed that the local police team would be boosted . The AGM heard that the local team would have the equivalent of 5.75 police officers instead of the current 4 at that time.

Violent crime also appears to be on the up in Chiswick with crimes described as Violence Against the Person up over the last twelve months for all wards but still below borough and Met average.

There was better news on burglary which had seen an increase last year. It has fallen in all of the Chiswick wards except Chiswick Riverside which has seen a sharp increase of 44.9%

Borough wide in Hounslow total crime is up by 1.9% compared to a 2.6% fall for the Metropolitan Police District as a whole.

We asked Chiswick Police for a statement on these figures but have yet to receive a response.
