The recent good weather which saw many people enjoying the shops, bars, restaurants and cafés of Chiswick High Road has also led to an increase in pickpocketing offences. A total of five pickpocketing thefts were reported in the past fortnight and police have urged the public to be vigilant.

One incident involved a victim being targeted in a shop on Chiswick High Road, shortly after withdrawing money from the bank. Police believe the suspect may have followed the victim from the bank, having observed them withdraw the money.

The fortnightly Neighbourhood Watch Briefing, the update of key crime figures and policing activity on the Turnham Green Ward has shown an increase in crime over the last reporting period - with 52 crimes reported in the past fortnight, a 23% increase on the last reporting period.

They are broken down as follows:

1) Burglary - There have been 2 residential burglaries reported. There were also 5 non residential burglaries reported.

2) Theft from motor vehicles - There have been 4 thefts from motor vehicle offences reported. Offenders are targeting vehicles with valuables left on display. Please take your possessions with you.

3) Pickpocket/Theft from person offences - There have been 5 theft from person offences reported this fortnight.

The police have issued some tips to make people think carefully of the dangers.

Keep bags and pockets fastened.

Taking out money? Keep an eye out for anyone watching you.

Coffee at the café? Don’t leave your phone on the table, distraction thieves approach victims trying to sell greetings cards.

Too close for comfort? Be aware of people invading your personal space.
