Counter terrorism police from SO15 raided homes across the UK as part of an investigation into suspected Islamist extremists. Properties in Hounslow, Brentford and Greenford near Ealing were searched and arrests made.

Scotland Yard said the raids were carried out under schedule 5 of the Terrorism Act.

Officers from Scotland Yard are also examining whether the men wanted to travel to Syria to fight.

Properties in High Wycombe in Buckinghamshire, Hounslow in Middlesex, Walthamstow in east London, Brentford and two in Greenford, west London were searched.

A number of cars were also searched.

Two men were arrested at a further two addresses on suspicion to commit grievous bodily harm.

The pair, one aged 30 who was held in Hounslow and one aged 18 who was held in Brentford, were questioned over allegations, which were not terrorism-related.

A 36 year-old man was arrested at an address in Greenford, on suspicion of encouragement of terrorism and suspicion of terrorist financing.

A residential address in Ealing and a business address in Fulham were also being investigated.
