A 30- year old man has been jailed for 12 weeks for stealing a bicycle in Chiswick.

30 year old Billy Widdrington of Edith Road, E14 was arrested by police who caught him in the act last week.

On Friday 17 October at about 2pm officers from Hounslow Safer Transport Team were in plain clothes monitoring cycle racks outside Sainsbury, Essex Place, Chiswick.

Widdrington approached these racks riding his own bicycle, which he locked before using wire cutters concealed within his jacket to cut the lock of a second bicycle secured to the rack. He attempted to cycle away, but was detained and arrested.

He was charged with theft, going equipped, and remanded in custody to appear at Uxbridge Magistrates' Court on Saturday 18 October, where he pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 12 weeks imprisonment.
