A former fiance of ex-S Club 7 star Hannah Spearritt has been cleared of charges of assaulting her as his trial collapsed due to lack of evidence.

Fitness trainer Adam Thomas, 36, from Chiswick, was found not guilty of one charge of common assault and one charge of witness intimidation at the hearing in Kingston Crown Court and walked free from court.

The court was told that three of the prosecution witnesses were unavailable for the trial.

Prosecuting counsel Chris Hewertson said that the case had been brought "in the public interest" but requested for it not to proceed due to insufficient evidence.

The judge said that since the Crown offered no evidence, he would formally record a finding of 'not guilty' and discharged the defendant.

The couple began dating in 2013 when she became a client and the pair moved in together and were engaged soon after.

However they split after Miss Spearritt, 35, rekindled a romance with her former S Club 7 band mate Paul Cattermole, 39, which ended this year.
