A man in his thirties has been arrested after a spate of incidents in Chiswick Churches.

The police say they detained the man last Friday (19 August) after receiving a number of reports of a man interrupting services and being abusive to members of the clergy and worshippers over the last few months.

The man was arrested on suspicion of a public order offence and taken to Kingston Police station.

Sgt Dave Turtle, Sector Sergeant for Turnham Green ward said the most recent incident took place earlier this month at Our Lady of Grace and St Edward Catholic Church on the High Road when a man entered holding a can of beer during Mass and started swearing at the priest.

Sgt Turtle added, "We won't tolerate any form of abuse at any premises, particularly at religious premises given the ongoing issues after the attack at a church in France."
