Chiswick Residents Told To Expect Explosions and Gunshots

The police are to hold a series of training exercises over the next few weeks that will involve explosions and gunfire at the Stag Brewery site in Mortlake. It is anticipated that these will be loud enough to be hear across much of the Chiswick area.

There was no notification of previous exercises at the location held by the Ministry of Defence which caused widespread alarm in nearby neighbourhoods. These exercises were conducted at night and involved helicopters which added to the alarm.

Officers from the Metropolitan Police’s training unit will be conducting exercises from 8.30am – 5pm on the following dates: Thursday 21 June, Wednesday 27 & Thursday 28 June and Wednesday 4 & Thursday 5 July.

During the exercise there will be the sound of gunshots and explosions as well as clouds of smoke and shouting.

The exercises will be controlled by experienced Police Instructors who will be wearing high visibility tabards. The police say they will ensure that the public remain safe at all times and minimize any disruption in the area, according to the announcement.
