Woman Dies After Being Rescued From Bedford Park Fire

Police say it's too soon to know whether fire was suspicious

A woman has died after being rescued from a fire at her Esmond Road home.

Emergency service were called at 23.44 on Friday 26th February but the fire was such that it was not until 05.26 on Saturday firefighters were able to get it under control.

Crews from Chiswick and Acton found the woman, known locally as Janie Lamb, unconscious on the ground floor of the house.

She was taken to Charing Cross Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Neighbour Jonathan Benn said, "The community came out of their houses and watched the firemen from several different fire engines struggle to contain the roaring blaze."

He added, "It is a sad time for the residents of Bedford Park."

An investigation into the cause of the fire was started on Saturday morning however, Police say there is no reason to believe that it was suspicious.
