A man had to be rescued by firefighters after a blaze took hold in a block of flats near Acton Green.

At around 3.43pm on Tuesday 4 July the fire started in the ground floor lobby of the three storey block on Gladstone Road in the Beaconsfield Estate.

The Fire Brigade sent engines and 15 firefighters from Chiswick, Acton and Hammersmith fire stations and a smoke hood was used to bring the man to safety from the second floor.

He was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation before being taken to hospital.

The fire was under control by 4:24pm with damage confined to the lobby area.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Brigade and Metropolitan Police Service indicating that arson has yet to be ruled out.
