FishWorks is celebrating this week as its two London sites have won the Tio Pepe ITV London Restaurant award for ‘Best Fish Restaurant.’

The winners were announced at an awards dinner, held at Marriott Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane on Monday 5 April. FishWorks was successful in winning the award against stiff competition from other nominees.

The Award included both of FishWorks’ London sites: Chiswick, which was short listed last year for the ‘Best New Restaurant’ Award and Marylebone, which opened October 2004 and is FishWorks’ newest and largest site.

Headed by founder Mitchell Tonks and CEO Roy Morris, FishWorks has captured the taste buds of fish lovers, restaurant critics and journalists alike with its refreshingly simple approach to seafood and winning combination of a traditional wet fish counter with a relaxed, café style dining area.

Commenting on the award, Mitch and Roy have together grown FishWorks from the original site in Bath to a group of five restaurants, each with entries in the Good Food Guide. Winning The ITV London Restaurant award is the latest in a long line of accolades the company has accumulated.

Mitchell Tonks said “This is fantastic to get recognition in a city like such as London, which I think ishas been recently proclaimed now the eating out centre of Europe and is real proof that FishWorks has a great team that carry our ethos”.”

Roy Morris, Chief Executive of FishWorks, accepting the award, added “The award is a wonderful tribute to our fantastic staff in all of our restaurants, front of house, kitchens and for our customers."

The restaurants were described by the judges as a wonderful mix of the past, present and future. ‘The past appears in terms of adding a welcome boost of energy and fortunes to the traditional fishmonger trade, a trade that has almost disappeared from our high streets. The present is represented by the fantastically well thought out menus in the restaurant, where dishes such as salted Cantabrian Sea anchovies, carabineros and hen crab rub shoulders with skate, cockles and fish fingers for the kids. All is beautifully presented and most certainly perfectly cooked. And the future comes in the guise of the cookery schools – an attempt to ensure fish stays firmly on the menu in British restaurants and, of course, homes.’
