Young people from the Westside Youth Club hosted a relay race and BBQ for Intelsat, the international satellite communications company based in Chiswick Business Park, to thank them for their support for the club.

Intelsat provided funding for the club at the beginning of the year to pay for Youth Workers to run sessions on Tuesday and Friday evenings and to buy a new pool table. The club provides a much-needed social venue for young people from the neighbourhood surrounding the Dukes Meadows Community Hall where the club is based.

Kathleen Healy who organises the Youth Club said, “the club is making a real difference to the young people who use it, they need somewhere to go to meet friends and socialise, boredom is a terrible hazard for teenagers. The funding from Intelsat is enabling us to provide this”

Kelvin Fearon, a youth worker at the club, agreed “We are immensely grateful to Intelsat for their support. It is great that having only recently moved into the area they want to make such a positive contribution to the local community. As well as giving money they also came down to meet the young people and spend time with them, which is really important. We are also grateful to our local MP Ann Keen who introduced Intelsat to us”.

Cynthia Ritchie, Intelsat’s Marketing Manager for Europe, said “the company is proud of our association with Dukes Meadows Community Association who are doing such important work with the Youth Club. We are happy to support Kathleen, Kelvin and the rest of the team, this week’s BBQ having allowed us to experience first-hand the great environment that the Club offers to local young people.”
