Local MP Ann Keen, a great supporter of Friends of Dukes Meadows, recently invited parliamentary colleague Frank Dobson to visit Dukes Meadows and see the Friends' work.

Mr Dobson headed up a recent study and report into children’s play “Getting Serious About Play” and has advised on a new fund that will be launched next year for children’s play areas.

The Friends have raised £225,000 to date towards their plans for new play areas on Dukes Meadows, but need further funds to commence works.

Development Manager for the Friends Kathleen Healy said, “we are very grateful to Ann for arranging this visit. She is committed to helping us achieve our plans to create a wonderful new amenity for local children and families and we really appreciate her support.”

The Friends have made major efforts over the last few years to regenerate the Dukes Meadows area. There is now a Farmers' Market every Sunday plus regular art sales and exhibitions at the Art Emporium. A youth club meets regularly at the Dukes Meadows Community Association Hall and regular fund raising community auctions are held there.
