Children from Chiswick Community School and the Croft Centre in Kew came together to design and decorate bags, in an activity organised by Dukes Meadows Trust and run by inclusive arts organisation Create.

Both sets of young people are involved in the project to build a new play at Dukes Meadows, which will be for inclusive play, and their ideas have helped shape the plans. Construction of the play area is due to start in just a few months and the event was to start forging friendships between local young people and those from the Croft Centre.

“The young people have been fantastic” said Dukes Meadows Chair Kathleen Healy said “This really is their project and it was great to see them getting together. The young people from Chiswick School made a big effort to make the Crofters feel welcome and were terrific hosts and the Crofters were a delight to work with.”

Heidi Mansfield from the Croft Centre said “What’s really nice is that Dukes Meadows Trust really want the Croft to be involved, it’s not just a box ticking exercise. It was lovely to see friendships starting between the young people. We hope to do more joint events in the future.”
