The footbridge at Hardwicke Road which links Bridge Street to Acton Green looks set to remain closed through much of the summer.

Work to stabilise the embankment between Chiswick Park and Turnham Green is being undertaken by London Underground which has required the closure of the footbridge since last December as well as the suspension of a number of parking bays in Hardwicke Road.

The original public notice for the work stated that the project would be completed by May of this year but signs have now been posted around the site giving August as the likely completion date.

The work entail a significant number of vehicles visiting the site to bring spoil from an area on Acton Green which is separated from the park by hoardings. Diggers are then being used to transfer this to the embankment.

A TfL spokesperson said, “To enable us to carry out repair works on the railway embankment between Chiswick Park and Turnham Green, we've had to close the footpath from Hardwick Road across the railway to Bridge Street. This is to allow the safe movement of vehicles and materials on and off the site.

“In an effort to minimise disturbance to local residents, we reduced the amount of work we carry out at night time which has inevitably had an impact on the length of time the project will take to complete. We apologise to local residents who use the footpath for the inconvenience. The works will be completed in mid August.”
